Journals / Title: Trying to Conceive after Tubal Reversal

Author: Navygrrl

About me: I am a mom to three great kids, boy 15, boy 13, and girl 10, all from my first marriage. I had a tubal ligation after the birth of my daughter, thinking I was finished. I am now remarried and my husband and I would like to have a child together. I had tubal reversal surgery on May 6, 2013, and we have been trying to conceive since then.

Months trying to conceive: 4 months

My story: Before choosing to have tubal reversal surgery, my husband and I underwent fertility testing. I discovered that I have diminished ovarian reserve and that my husband has low motility. The RE told us that our chances with IVF would be very low since we have fertility issues on both sides. He also told us that having a tubal reversal would be our best bet since that would give us multiple chances each year. We had initially thought that IVF would be our best shot, but with this news we chose tubal reversal surgery. My surgery was successful and I ended up with 9cm on both tubes. The doctor said we could start trying as soon as we felt up to it, so we have been trying since then. I also discovered that I have a luteal phase defect and poor ovulation, so I am rather discouraged. I started clomid last cycle, which helped lengthen my luteal phase to a normal length, but the cycle was unsuccessful. This is my second month on clomid, and the ultrasound today showed a 20mm follicle on my right side, so at least the clomid is doing its job. If not successful this cycle, my doctor will be adding an ovidrel trigger.

My emotions: I am starting to get discouraged about trying to conceive. With my age and our fertility issues, I don't know if this will ever happen for us. I am grateful for the children I already have, and we would be just fine if we didn't have any more, but it's still difficult.
